My Tappan gas range oven doesn't work.?
I have a Tappan gas range, and the top burners work, but the oven doesn't work. I am completely stumped on what is the problem. I read about the ignitor possibly going out or the gas safety valve, but I was wondering what and where those would be. Thank you

Open the oven door and turn on the gas valve. if it is a model with an igniter, you will see an orange glow start up in about 15-20 seconds. if you don't see the glow, the igniter is bad and will need to be replaced.
The gas valve will not open unless the igniter comes on and heats up. that IS the safety valve. Check that the igniter comes on first. If the igniter works, then either the heat sensor is bad, or the gas valve is stuck.
Most modern ranges have electric gas valves, and these can malfunctiion from a couple of causes,
although the igniter is the most common problem
