In the box where my air filter is in my 06 Impala there is a lot of lint/threads is that normal?
Are these threads and lint in the air box normal and should it be removed/cleaned?
Yes, clean out the air box. The "lint" is from your air
cleaner. When you replace it, make sure to buy a better
quality one like Fram or if you can, a K&N which costs
much more, but you can clean and reuse it.
How to get the most out of your tumble dryer
Autumn is here and it’s time to get out your woollens and wrap up warm. Even the sunniest days don’t take away the chill of looming winter and you find yourself relying more and more on the tumble dryer to get through the week’s laundry.
Below is a list of fundamental, easy to implement maintenance tasks to help your tumble dryer work to its fullest potential, give you the best results and save energy even in autumn and winter.
Cleaning the lint filter
Blocked airways in tumble dyers can cause the appliance to overheat and in extreme cases it can cause fires so it is imperative you regularly clean out the lint filter. This is an easy and quick job to do and should really be done every wash or every few washes. Firstly open the door of your tumble dryer and remove the lint filter, then brush off the trapped lint. Every so often wash the filter in warm soapy water (refer to manual beforehand to check this is possible with your model) to get rid of the smallest fibres.
Tip: When cleaning the filter don't pick all the fluff off, just get a little bit of lint in your fingers and wipe it over the rest. The lint will easily wipe off straight away.
Vacuum clean the area surrounding the lint filter every six months or so with a narrow nozzle. This will remove any lint which has become trapped beneath.
Check the hose
If you have a vent tumble dryer make sure you take the time to check the hose at this time of year, before use of the machine gets to its heaviest. Look out for damage such as snags or punctures in the pipe, make sure the vent is not obstructed on the outside wall, and fit a flap or screen to keep out small animals.
Empty the water trap
This is only necessary for tumble condenser dryers which aren’t plumbed in and therefore can’t drain water away automatically. To empty the reservoir, simply pull out the drawer at the front, flip it upside down, and empty the water out of the chamber.
Tip: Don’t throw the water away – use it to feed your plants instead.
Following these three easy steps will allow you to get the driest clothes in the quickest time possible, as well as saving energy and reducing the fire risk from your appliances.
